The M6 is still closed in part this morning.
Due to a deadly collision on the freeway, the M6 will stay closed today.

Due to reports of an accident, traffic was stopped about 11.30 a.m. yesterday, Wednesday, November 6. According to reports, a truck heading north between Preston and Lancaster veered onto the M6’s southbound carriageway and struck several other cars as the event progressed.

Firefighters, road ambulances, and the Air Ambulance were among the emergency services that hurried to the area. The Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South/Garstang) J33 A6 has been closed in both directions ever since.

One individual lost their life in the crash, and other others suffered severe injuries. The M6 southbound between J32 M55 (Broughton Interchange) and J33 A6 Preston Lancaster Road (Lancaster South / Garstang) is still closed nearly twenty-four hours after the collision.

Lanes one and two on the northbound carriageway have been reopened by police, but lane three is still blocked. This will enable roadside emergency repairs to be made.

On the A6, which parallels the motorway, drivers can take a diversion and re-enter the M6 at J33. Traffic is backed up on the A6 via Hollins Lane, Cabus, and Catterall, according to the traffic alert website Inrix.

Due to a catastrophic collision, a portion of the M6 will remain closed in both directions until tomorrow morning, so drivers are encouraged to plan their routes and anticipate significant delays this evening and tonight.

Three additional vehicles and two heavy goods vehicles were involved in the collision this morning. One of the HGVs was travelling north when it crossed over into the southbound carriageway. Every emergency service, including an air ambulance, was present.

The incident resulted in damage to the centre reservation barrier. To free stopped traffic, the fire department cleared another section of the central reservation. Additionally, there was a fuel spill across the carriageway that needs to be cleaned up.

The M6 will be closed overnight between Junction 33 (Lancaster) and Junction 32 (Preston) while police continue their investigation.
