Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘Stranger Things’ Dad Matthew Modine Officiated Her Wedding to Jake Bongiovi
Millie Bobby Brown revealed that her Stranger Things co-star and on-screen father figure, Matthew Modine, officiated her wedding to Jake Bongiovi in May 2024. The 21-year-old actress shared the touching detail during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 11.
“The second Jake proposed, I said, ‘I know who needs to marry us. It’s my papa,’” Millie told Fallon, referring to Modine, 65, who played Dr. Martin Brenner on the hit Netflix series since its debut in 2016. The two have maintained a close off-screen relationship, making him the perfect choice to preside over her nuptials.
Millie humorously recounted how Modine initially didn’t realize she was serious about the request. “I think he thought when I called him he was like, ‘OK, sure.’ And then I sent him the invite, and I was like, ‘You’re still officiating.’ Eight months later, he’s like, ‘Oh, you really wanted me to do that?’” she shared.
Brown and Bongiovi, the 22-year-old son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi, have been together since 2021. Their wedding was a private affair, but Millie’s revelation about Modine’s role adds a heartwarming twist to their love story. Fans of Stranger Things will surely appreciate the real-life bond between the actress and her on-screen “Papa.”
