The Princeton Tigers showcased their dominance at the ivy League women’s swimming and diving championship 

 

The Princeton Tigers showcased their dominance at the Ivy League Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships this week, clinching the team title with an impressive 1,479 points. This victory placed them over 200 points ahead of their closest competitor, Harvard, who secured second place with 1,287.5 points, while Yale finished third with 1,090.5 points.

The championship commenced on Wednesday evening with the 800-yard freestyle relay, where Princeton immediately set a commanding tone. The quartet of Jenna Walters, Sabrina Johnston, Eleanor Sun, and Heidi Smithwick delivered a remarkable performance, finishing with a time of 7:03.47. This effort earned them a decisive victory, outpacing Brown University, who clocked in at 7:09.54, and the University of Pennsylvania, close behind at 7:09.66.

On the following day, Princeton’s momentum continued, largely propelled by standout swimmer Eleanor Sun. Sun triumphed in the 200-yard individual medley, recording a swift time of 1:55.50. Her teammates, Dakota Tucker and Eliza Brown, completed the event sweep for the Tigers, posting times of 1:57.76 and 1:59.25, respectively.

The Tigers’ prowess was further evident in the 50-yard freestyle event. Sabrina Johnston led the charge, securing first place with a time of 22.30 seconds. Ela Noble added to Princeton’s medal tally by clinching second place in a closely contested finish, touching out Harvard’s Anya Mostek with a time of 22.43 seconds to Mostek’s 22.45 seconds.

Princeton’s comprehensive performance throughout the championships underscores their depth and talent across multiple events. The collaborative efforts of seasoned swimmers and emerging talents have solidified the Tigers’ position at the pinnacle of Ivy League women’s swimming. As the season progresses, Princeton’s athletes and coaching staff will undoubtedly aim to build upon this success, striving for continued excellence in upcoming competitions.
