Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore Criticize Ferrari’s Decision to Sign Lewis Hamilton
Former Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone and ex-Renault boss Flavio Briatore have voiced their concerns over Ferrari’s decision to sign seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season. Both believe the move could backfire for the Italian team.
Ecclestone, known for his blunt opinions, suggested that Ferrari’s management may have acted emotionally rather than strategically. “Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the best drivers in history, but Ferrari may not be the right place for him at this stage of his career,” he reportedly said. “He’s 40 next year, and while he still has the speed, adapting to a new team could be a challenge.”
Briatore, who played a crucial role in Fernando Alonso’s championship wins with Renault, echoed Ecclestone’s skepticism. He believes Ferrari should have focused on developing younger talent rather than signing an aging superstar. “Ferrari needs stability and long-term planning. Hamilton is a short-term solution,” Briatore remarked.
Despite their doubts, Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari has excited fans worldwide. The British driver is set to partner Charles Leclerc, forming a formidable lineup. Whether Ecclestone and Briatore’s concerns prove correct remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—2025 will be a thrilling season for Ferrari and F1 as a whole.
