- Jack Doohan’s Costly Australian GP Crash: Rookie Accepts Mistake and Looks Ahead
Jack Doohan endured a tough start to his Formula 1 career with a race-ending crash at the Australian Grand Prix. Lining up 14th on the grid as the second-best rookie qualifier, the Alpine driver saw his race come to an abrupt end after a combination of factors—including a slippery white line, a spike in RPM, and a touch too much throttle—led to his crash.
Reflecting on the incident, Doohan took full responsibility, stating, “It’s my first shunt in one of these Formula 1 cars. I’m sure it won’t be the last.” He emphasized that mistakes happen and vowed to bounce back stronger. “I didn’t want it to happen, but it has. I’ve accepted it,” he added.
Despite the disappointment, the Australian found positives in his weekend, highlighting Alpine’s strong pace. “If we had completed that Q2 lap, we would have been comfortably in Q3,” he noted. He believed a P7 or P8 finish was within reach, showcasing confidence in his car’s performance for the season ahead.
Doohan’s crash comes amid speculation about his future, with rumors suggesting his Alpine contract only guarantees him a limited number of races. However, he dismissed the speculation, stating he has a deal for “at least this year, if not more.”
With his debut Grand Prix behind him, Doohan remains focused on improvement. As Alpine evaluates its driver lineup, the young Australian knows that every race is an opportunity to prove his worth. His determination to learn from the setback and push forward will be key as he aims to secure a long-term future in Formula 1.
