Sheffield United and Crystal Palace agreed to insert a recall clause in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s loan but Mick Brown believes an early return is unlikely.
During the summer transfer window, Sheffield United saw a large influx of new players as Chris Wilder worked to reassemble the team.
After being relegated from the Premier League, a number of players moved on as their contracts expired. Fortunately, despite attention from other places, many of the top men who were still on the books remained there.
The addition of winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi was one of the more notable additions.
The Sheffield United loan player is beginning to demonstrate why he was so much sought after after a rather slow start. He scored two goals in the victory against Luton Town and provided his first assist in the victory over Stoke City over the weekend.
Fans may not be worried about an early January recall based on his goal and assist total to date, but Crystal Palace’s outfield issues may make them reconsider. Mick Brown, a transfer insider, is certain that Rak-Sakyi will remain with the Blades for the entire season.
Brown, a former Manchester United and Spurs scout, told Football Insider that although the Eagles have been keeping a close eye on Rak-Sakyi, he expects him to stay past January even with the recall option. He stated:
“Crystal Palace have been monitoring him closely.
The question of whether they ought to recall him has been discussed. Because they insisted on it in the agreement, they included the recall option for a reason.
“The option is there, and it’s something they’re considering, but I’d be surprised if it happens,” Brown said.
“As of right now, I anticipate that he will remain with Sheffield United for the remainder of the season.”
Inevitable concerns
Concerns or thoughts about loan players being recalled by parent clubs are not exclusive to Sheffield United or Rak-Sakyi in particular.
There will be EFL clubs up and down the ladder hoping they are able to retain their loan stars for the full campaign. That will especially be the case for the Blades if Rak-Sakyi can really find consistent form and start to notch up more goals and assists.
The concern may be higher at Bramall Lane due to the concerning lack of depth out wide.
Rak-Sakyi is one of few natural options on the wings with Gustavo Hamer filling in on the left.
Looking to find form
With Rak-Sakyi finding a bit more success on the Sheffield United right, he’ll be out to show he can register consistent contributions going forward after starring in League One and at youth level.
Next up is a stiff test though as the Blades travel west to face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
John Eustace’s side are yet to lose on their own path and sit 6th. Rak-Sakyi will face one of Owen Beck or Harry Pickering at left-back, with the former impressing on loan away from Liverpool while the latter has been a consistent and reliable presence in defence.
