Following the Australian Grand Prix, the FIA has implemented stricter regulations on rear wing flexibility, effective from the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix. This decision comes after footage from the Melbourne race raised concerns about potential aerodynamic advantages gained through flexible rear wings.

The new directives reduce the permissible variation between the main plane and the upper flap of the rear wing from 2mm to 0.5mm, with an initial tolerance of 0.25mm for the Chinese Grand Prix to accommodate teams. These measures aim to prevent teams from exploiting rear wing flexibility to gain undue performance benefits.

Lando Norris, who secured victory in Australia, expressed confidence that McLaren’s performance will remain unaffected by these changes, stating that their rear wing design complies with the new standards.

The enforcement of these regulations is anticipated to impact the aerodynamic strategies of several teams, potentially influencing the competitive dynamics at the Chinese Grand Prix.
