US Envoy Witkoff: Liberation of Russian-Occupied Ukrainian Regions Key to War’s End
In a recent statement, US envoy David Witkoff emphasized that the liberation of Russian-occupied regions in Ukraine is crucial to achieving a lasting resolution to the ongoing conflict. Witkoff’s remarks reflect the United States’ steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid Russia’s continued occupation of key regions.
Speaking at an international security forum, Witkoff underscored that any diplomatic efforts to end the war must prioritize Ukraine’s right to reclaim its occupied territories. He noted that without the restoration of these regions to Ukrainian control, the prospect of a durable peace remains elusive.
“The occupied areas are not just pieces of land but vital parts of Ukraine’s national identity and economic foundation,” Witkoff stated. He also reiterated the United States’ commitment to assisting Ukraine through military aid, humanitarian support, and diplomatic backing in international forums.
The envoy’s comments come amid escalating hostilities in eastern and southern Ukraine, where Russian forces continue to entrench their positions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also reiterated that regaining control over occupied regions, including Crimea and the Donbas area, remains a top priority for his administration.
Witkoff urged the international community to maintain pressure on Moscow through sanctions and diplomatic isolation while bolstering support for Kyiv’s defense efforts. He cautioned that compromising on territorial issues could embolden further aggression and destabilize the broader region.
As the war drags on, Western allies continue to assess strategies that reinforce Ukraine’s position while seeking avenues for a peaceful and just
resolution.
