Syria Seizes Explosives Intended for Terrorist Attacks by Assad Loyalists

SYRIA – Syrian security forces have reportedly intercepted a significant cache of explosives, which authorities claim was intended for terrorist attacks orchestrated by hardline supporters of President Bashar al-Assad.

According to official statements released by state security sources, the operation was initiated after receiving intelligence of a planned plot targeting key government and military installations. The explosive devices, concealed in multiple vehicles near a sensitive area outside Damascus, were seized during a coordinated raid by security units.

Authorities allege that the materials were slated for use by a faction of Assad loyalists who, despite their public alignment with the government, were reportedly preparing to carry out unauthorized attacks. “This operation underscores our commitment to national security and the rule of law,” a senior security official said. “No group, regardless of their proclaimed loyalty, is above the law if they threaten the stability of our nation.”

The incident comes at a time when internal security in Syria remains a pressing concern. Critics of the regime have previously accused it of employing loyalist militias to exert control and silence dissent. However, government spokespeople insist that the seizure highlights the authorities’ efforts to root out any elements willing to resort to violence for political gains—even those claiming allegiance to the state.

While the government’s narrative frames the operation as a decisive blow against extremist elements within its own ranks, independent observers remain cautious. Some analysts suggest that the incident may reflect internal power struggles and the complex dynamics within pro-Assad groups.

No casualties have been reported in the raid, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the network behind the planned attacks. Security forces have increased patrols in the region, and additional arrests are expected as the probe continues.

As the situation develops, both domestic and international entities are closely monitoring the unfolding events, with questions remaining over the broader implications for Syria’s internal security and political landscape.
