Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of at least 20 Palestinians, according to medical sources. The strikes occurred overnight and into Monday, hitting multiple locations across the region.
One significant strike targeted a tent camp in the Muwasi area, designated by Israel as a humanitarian zone, killing eight individuals, including two children. The Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis received the bodies from this incident. Additionally, six people were killed while securing an aid convoy, and two others died in a strike on a car in Muwasi. Another individual was killed in a separate strike in the same area. In the central city of Deir al-Balah, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital reported receiving three bodies after an airstrike on a school-turned-shelter in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
The Israeli military stated that it targeted a Hamas militant in the humanitarian zone, asserting that its operations focus on militants who, they claim, hide among civilians.
These airstrikes coincide with the observance of Eid al-Fitr, a significant Muslim holiday marking the end of Ramadan. Traditionally a time of celebration, this year’s Eid in Gaza is overshadowed by grief and hardship. Residents face dwindling food supplies and ongoing conflict, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths, mostly civilians, and around 250 hostages taken. Israel’s subsequent air and ground offensive has led to significant casualties in Gaza.
