Formula 1 reigning champion Max Verstappen has stunned fans and pundits alike with his latest remarks, saying he sees “no chance” of winning a fifth world title in 2025.
Speaking candidly in an interview ahead of the season’s European leg, the Red Bull Racing driver cited a combination of growing internal team challenges and intensifying competition from rival constructors. “It’s not the same as before,” Verstappen said. “The car isn’t where we need it to be, and other teams have made big strides. Unless something drastic changes, I don’t see us fighting for the championship this year.”
This statement marks a dramatic shift in tone for the 26-year-old Dutchman, who dominated the 2023 and 2024 seasons. While Red Bull remains a strong contender on the grid, early races in 2025 have shown mixed results, with Ferrari and McLaren consistently challenging for podiums and even Mercedes making a steady resurgence.
Verstappen’s future with Red Bull has also been a topic of speculation in recent months, amid rumors of internal friction and shifting dynamics within the team.
Despite his pessimism, fans aren’t ruling him out just yet. With two-thirds of the season remaining, many believe Verstappen’s grit and talent could still tilt the balance in his favor.
Still, for the first time in years, the F1 title race feels wide open.
