In the aftermath of Oscar Piastri’s commanding win at the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix, McLaren’s Team Principal Andrea Stella has lauded the young Australian’s exceptional mental capabilities, attributing them as a key factor in his success.
Piastri’s victory in Bahrain, marking his fourth career win and McLaren’s second of the season, was characterized by a composed and strategic drive that saw him dominate the race.
Stella emphasized Piastri’s intellectual prowess, stating, “Oscar is talented and let me say intelligent. His brain capabilities are very high. He has very interesting characteristics. I would say that he is very calm.”
The McLaren boss drew parallels between Piastri and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, noting, “In Oscar, I see his powerful mind. He is definitely like Fernando. He can do mathematical calculations while driving.”
This recognition of Piastri’s mental acuity underscores McLaren’s confidence in their driver’s potential to contend for the championship, especially as he narrows the gap to teammate Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings.
With McLaren’s focus on providing both drivers with competitive machinery, Stella’s acknowledgment of Piastri’s cerebral strengths suggests a promising trajectory for the young driver’s career in Formula 1.
