Malcolm Wilson
In a significant development within the motorsport community, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem has nominated Malcolm Wilson, the esteemed former rally driver and founder of M-Sport, for the position of Deputy President for Sport at the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). This nomination follows the recent resignation of Robert Reid, who stepped down citing a “fundamental breakdown in governance standards” within the organization.
Malcolm Wilson’s nomination is set to be voted on during the FIA’s upcoming meeting in Macau this June. Under Wilson’s leadership, M-Sport has managed Ford’s World Rally Championship program since 1997, achieving manufacturers’ titles in 2006, 2007, and 2017. His extensive experience and success in rallying make him a prominent figure in the motorsport world.
Expressing his sentiments on the nomination, Wilson stated, “It is an honour to be nominated, and I look forward to supporting Ben Sulayem.” Ben Sulayem, himself a former rally driver and a 14-time Middle East Rally Champion, assumed the FIA presidency in December 2021, becoming the first non-European to hold the position.
The forthcoming vote in Macau will determine whether Wilson will officially assume the role of Deputy President for Sport, a position critical to the governance and development of global motorsport disciplines.
