EFCC Detains Social Media Influencer, VeryDarkMan Over Alleged Criticism Of GTBank
Controversial Nigerian social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is plotting to arrest him due to his outspoken criticism of the agency and its chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede.
In a video posted on his Instagram page on February 27, 2025, VeryDarkMan claimed that an influential lawyer and a prominent social media influencer visited the EFCC’s Abuja office, presenting video clips and a photograph of him spraying money at an event. He asserted that these materials were used to persuade the EFCC to take action against him.
“EFCC Abuja, I heard you had two visitors today—one an influencer, the other a big lawyer. They brought clips of me and a picture where I was spraying money. They said, ‘this is the opportunity to go for VeryDarkMan,'” he alleged.
VeryDarkMan further claimed that an EFCC officer agreed with the visitors, citing his frequent criticism of the commission and its leadership as justification for action against him. He stated, “I know you’re wondering how I found out, but I have informants inside your office. I also heard you are planning to frame me.”
These allegations have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with supporters rallying behind VeryDarkMan while others question the veracity of his claims. As of now, the EFCC has not issued an official response to these allegations.
This development adds to the ongoing tension between VeryDarkMan and the EFCC, following his previous involvement in controversies, including allegations of bribery within the commission. In September 2024, the EFCC invited both VeryDarkMan and crossdresser Bobrisky for questioning over claims that Bobrisky paid N15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him.
