Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has applauded Max Verstappen for what he described as “his staunch defence of his lead” during a tense and tactical Grand Prix weekend. Verstappen, who started from pole, held off fierce pressure from rival teams throughout the race, showcasing not only his pace but also his racecraft under immense pressure.
“Max showed why he’s a world champion,” Horner told reporters post-race. “His composure and control under pressure were exceptional. He didn’t give an inch and managed the tyres and the pace brilliantly, especially when the threats came thick and fast in the final laps.”
The Dutch driver’s performance was particularly impressive as he faced challenges from both Ferrari and Mercedes in a closely matched midfield. Despite differing strategies and a late safety car that bunched up the pack, Verstappen remained unshaken and executed a flawless restart.
Horner emphasized that such performances reinforce Verstappen’s position as the cornerstone of Red Bull’s success. “He was calm on the radio, fully in control, and did exactly what he needed to do. That kind of defence is what wins championships.”
With the win, Verstappen extends his lead in the drivers’ standings, while Red Bull continues to build on its momentum in the constructors’ battle.
