Red Bull Racing has officially unveiled its 2025 Formula 1 contender, the RB21, during a filming day at the Bahrain International Circuit on February 25. Reigning four-time World Champion Max Verstappen and his new teammate, 23-year-old New Zealander Liam Lawson, took to the track, marking Lawson’s inaugural run with the senior team ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 16.
The RB21’s debut comes just before the official pre-season testing, scheduled from February 26 to 28 at the same venue. This strategic timing allows the team to assess the car’s systems and performance in a controlled environment before engaging in more intensive testing sessions. The filming day, permitted under FIA regulations, enables teams to run up to 100 kilometers on demonstration tires for promotional purposes.
Max Verstappen, aiming for his fifth consecutive World Championship title, expressed enthusiasm about the new season and his partnership with Lawson. “It’s always exciting to get back in the car after the off-season,” Verstappen noted. “The RB21 feels promising, and I’m looking forward to working alongside Liam. He’s shown great potential, and together, we aim to bring the Constructors’ title back to Milton Keynes.”
Liam Lawson, stepping up from Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls, acknowledged the challenges ahead but remained optimistic. “Driving the RB21 for the first time is a significant milestone in my career,” Lawson said. “There’s a lot to learn, but with Max and the team’s support, I’m confident we can achieve great results this season.”
The RB21, designed under the guidance of Technical Director Pierre Waché, features aerodynamic refinements aimed at enhancing performance and reliability. While initial images released by the team were strategically obscured to conceal specific design elements, subsequent footage from the Bahrain filming day provided clearer views of the car’s updated features. Notably, the sidepod intakes and rear wing have undergone significant modifications, reflecting the team’s continuous pursuit of aerodynamic efficiency.
Team Principal Christian Horner emphasized the importance of the upcoming season, stating, “2025 presents new challenges with evolving regulations and intensified competition. Our focus is on optimizing the RB21’s performance and fostering a strong driver partnership between Max and Liam. The entire team is committed to reclaiming the Constructors’ Championship and maintaining our position at the forefront of Formula 1.”
As the sole pre-season test approaches, Red Bull Racing aims to fine-tune the RB21’s setup and address any potential issues before the competitive season commences. With a blend of experience and emerging talent in their driver lineup, the team is poised to tackle the challenges of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
