Grisly new details are emerging in the mysterious death of a Windsor man whose remains were found on Walpole Island in March 2021.
Provincial police said little during a massive police probe – first of a suspicious death, later a homicide – on the First Nation between Sarnia and Chatham in March 2021, leaving residents with many unanswered questions.
More than 2 1/2 years later, that veil of secrecy finally has lifted as two of eight accused in the case have pleaded guilty and been sentenced for their roles in the killing, burning and dismembering of Oyebode (Bode) Oyenuga, 25, of Windsor.
OPP named Oyenuga and confirmed he was a homicide victim in June 2021, nearly three months after the remains were found and four months after his family first reported him missing. More updates followed as eight suspects – six of them charged with first-degree murder – were arrested between August 2021 and March 2022.
But no new details were provided about how the Windsor computer science student ended up in the First Nation about 120 kilometres from his hometown, how he died, or how he was connected to the eight suspects.
Attempts by Postmedia to contact his relatives and friends were unsuccessful.
