The M5 has been hit with closures this morning (Friday, September 27) due to flooding caused by heavy rain overnight. A severe weather warning is still in effect. The closure could remain for some time and diversions are in place.

The northbound carriageway is closed between theM5 trafficInterchange and junction 14. Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports: “M5 northbound closed, long delays due to flooding from J16 A38 Gloucester Road (Aztec West) to J14 B4509 (Thornbury / Falfield).

“Congestion to the A38 which is solid between Woodford and Almondsbury as traffic diverts. TheM5 traffic carriageway remains closed whilst clear up works and recovery for stranded vehicles is completed.”

The southbound stretch from junction 14 for Thornbury and Falfield to junction 15 for the M4 at the Almondsbury Interchange has reopened but was closed this morning due to flooding, causing two miles of queues and congestion back to the Michaelwood Services. There was congestion to the A38 between Woodford and Almondsbury as traffic diverted.
