Pundit Makes Controversial Suggestion That Celtic Should Sign Rangers Star

The suggestion made by former Scotland goalie Alan Rough that Celtic should make an attempt to sign Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland should he become available this summer has caused some controversy.

According to some reports, Rangers may be compelled to sell the ‘keeper’ in order to raise money for a summertime makeover.

After joining the Rangers last summer, Jack Butland has established himself as a vital member of the squad and has been nominated for PFA Player of the Year. Though Lawrence Shankland of the Hearts eventually took home the trophy, Butland’s influence at the Rangers has been evident. With a number of vital saves, his performances have been vital in helping Rangers stay in the title hunt.

Rough said on PLZ Soccer, “If Celtic were starting to build, I’d get Jack Butland, if he’s available.”

“You’d ask Celtic to sign Jack Butland?” the host, Peter Martin, said throughout the conversation, expressing his surprise at Rough’s offer. In response, Rough gave a positive explanation, saying, “If it was on. That would be an excellent place to start if he was going to leave or whatever.

The thought of Celtic attempting to acquire a valuable player from Rangers is impressive, but regardless of how excellent Jack Butland would be as a replacement for Joe Hart, who is retiring, I highly doubt Celtic would even entertain the possibility.

It’s possible that Joe Hart would have transferred if he had retired last summer, but it seems unlikely given that he played for the Rangers for a year.

There have been many of choices discussed in relation to the current Scottish Premiership winners as the Celtic custodian quest continues.

Martin Dubravka, the custodian for Newcastle United, has been connected a lot this window, which has made him talk about his future after Slovakia lost to England last week in their elimination from Euro 2024.

As the Celtic custodian quest continues, numerous options have been considered in relation to the current Scottish Premiership winners.

Newcastle United’s custodian Martin Dubravka has been in contact with a number of people this transfer window, which has forced him to discuss his future after Slovakia’s defeat by England last week sealed their elimination from the 2024 European Championship.

It has been revealed that the Bhoys are reportedly chasing about 20 stoppers in total. Fans are getting angrier by the minute, thus a solution is required.

In response to the proposed Celtic custodian idea, Mark Wilson
Numerous options have been suggested as potential solutions to the Celtic custodian crisis, and former Hoops player Mark Wilson has added his own proposal of a potential fit.

The 40-year-old responded to a hypothesis that surfaced on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard regarding the signing of free agency goalie Kasper Schmeichel, a move that would bring the seasoned stopper back together with Brendan Rodgers. At Leicester City, the two worked together for three years.

“I quite like that, that’s quite a sensible suggestion,” he said in his explanation. He’s perhaps pushing it a touch too far at 37. Nevertheless, he’s been an excellent custodian over the years provided he has maintained his physical condition, which you would think he would. Naturally, there is a connection to Brendan Rodgers.

“He possesses both the height and experience that you need in a goalie. It’s fine if he works for you for a year or two if that’s all you get out of him.

I’ll bring it up again: I don’t believe that signing players is always necessary to make money. The performances and awards they assist in delivering should be the ultimate goal. You have to admit, Joe Hart checked all the boxes in that.

“Celtic, of course, did not receive any sell-on from him, but they did receive a spell of prosperity and stability from a keeper who, while not perfect, was almost always there to carry the side over the finish line when it mattered most. If he is a free agent, I don’t think you can do worse than him.

In the unlikely event that it materialised, there would be some familiarity there because Schmeichel has a tonne of experience and has played in Scotland before.

He played 32 games for Anderlecht in all competitions last season, giving up 33 goals and recording eight clean sheets [Transfermarkt].

However, given that he is 37, it would probably only be a temporary arrangement. It is unlikely that Hart would be at Parkhead for more than a year or two, considering he recently retired at that age.

Oh Hyeon-gyu of Celtic is the most wanted person according to KRC Genk as of June 13. Additionally, it was said that he is eager to leave Brendan Rodgers’ team in the summer.

Later on that day, Belgian announced that the 23-year-old and the Jupiler Pro League team had reached a personal terms agreement.

HBVL revealed earlier this week that Genk and Celtic are still in negotiations for Oh Hyeon-gyu.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the Belgian team has already made a preliminary offer for the international player from South Korea. They state that Celtic rejected it, but they don’t go into specifics.

According to the source, Genk has “increased the bid” to secure the services of the Celtic striker, indicating that they are not ready to lose up on him. This makes it very evident that they wish to close a deal this summer.

HLN doesn’t discuss Genk’s most recent offer or the amount required to persuade Celtic.

After signing with them in January 2023, the attacker has played in 47 games for a total of over 1,300 minutes. Celtic will have to decide whether to keep him or not.

Matt O’Riley of Celtic is one of the two midfielders that Italian powerhouse Roma is keeping an eye on this summer.

O’Riley had an outstanding last season at Celtic, helping the team win both the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

The 23-year-old Dane made 48 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ team in all competitions, tallying 19 goals and 18 assists.

Roma is thinking of sending him to Italy this summer, while Atletico Madrid is interested in acquiring him.

But he’s one of two attacking midfielders Roma is now pursuing, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport (via Tutto Mercato).

After seeing what O’Riley has to offer, the Serie A powerhouses are impressed and have him on their wish list.

However, Tomas Suslov of Hellas Verona, who is presently with Slovakia in the European Championship squad, is also attracting interest from Roma.

The Serie A powerhouses are still undecided about which player to try to recruit this summer despite liking both profiles.

Gruda’s performances for Mainz this season, which saw them finish in 13th place in the Bundesliga, drew attention.

The winger has suitors in Germany and the Premier League, including Aston Villa and Newcastle, and is currently a wanted man for the summer.

While Bayern Munich is interested in signing Gruda, the winger has acknowledged that as a boy, he dreamed of playing for the Allianz Arena team. Gruda is also being pursued by Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig.

When asked if joining Bayern Munich would be his dream move, Gruda replied, “Absolutely,” to the German daily Bild (via FCBinside). Every football player’s childhood dream is to play for Bayern Munich.
