Jeff Stelling call on Anthony Gordon for England that he thinks many won’t like

Published

on

Born in Hartlepool Throughout his tenure at Sky Sports News, Jeff Stelling has frequently stood up for the North East, defending Newcastle United and the region when journalists from the South have been unjust.

Even though he doesn’t support Newcastle, Jeff Stelling was frequently the Magpies’ voice of reason on Sky Sports before he left to join TalkSPORT.

After the human blood vessel made fun of Newcastle on the air, Stelling jumped to the city’s defence on Football Saturday and forcefully put Alan Brazil in his place. We will never forget Stelling’s outburst at his now-coworker.

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that he selected Anthony Gordon of Newcastle for his starting lineup on TalkSPORT for England’s forthcoming Euro 2024 opening against Serbia.

Jeff Stelling thinks his selection will be controversial

Stelling anticipated that he would be under fire for his decision—not so much for selecting Gordon as for excluding Phil Foden, and, to be fair, he has a point in his defence.

Palmer will be selected slightly ahead of Bukayo Saka. Saka hasn’t completely recovered from her setback. Palmer, in my opinion, proved enough against Iceland.

For the majority of the evening, I believed Anthony Gordon, [Cole] Palmer, and [Harry] Kane to be our greatest threats. He’s been playing brilliantly, and without Phil Foden, everyone is going to hammer me.

But Foden only managed four goals for England in 34 games. Gareth Southgate and his team, in my opinion, are scratching their heads as to how to get the best out of Phil Foden for England.”

Can Anthony Gordon keep Phil Foden out of the England side?

Without a question, one of the top players in the Premier League is Phil Foden. However, Foden is correct; the young kid is too excellent to sit on the bench and hasn’t yet been able to duplicate that level of play while wearing an England shirt. He just needs to play one game to make everything click and be done.

However, as Stelling stated, Gordon was England’s most threatening player on Friday and was among their top players in his debut match against Brazil, therefore we wouldn’t trade Gordon for Foden.

It’s a difficult decision, and having been in the game long enough to know that the Newcastle boy will be let go, but Micah Richards, Jeff Stelling, Gary Lineker, and Alan Shearer all picked him to start, so maybe Southgate will too.

Hartlepool United sign former Newcastle academy youngster Jack Hunter

Published

on

Jack Hunter, an accomplished midfielder, was released by National League competition Halifax Town, and he was signed by HARTLEPOOL UNITED

After Luke Charman, the 26-year-old will sign with Pools as a free agent at the end of the month, making him the team’s second summer acquisition.

Hunter, a North-East native and graduate of Newcastle United’s academy, played for Gateshead when they won the National League North in 2022.

After that, he relocated to Halifax, where he spent two years playing in the National League, making over 100 appearances, many of which saw him line up alongside current Pools striker Mani Dieseruvwe.

Hunter declared, “I’m ecstatic to be here at the club.” It’s been a long time in the making. My decision to come here was greatly influenced by the gaffer’s ambitions for the club and for using me, which I was aware of from our first talk.

“Over the past few years, I’ve grown a lot, and I’m eager to share my expertise from my time in Halifax and Gateshead. I’ve had the opportunity to play football at the Suit Direct Stadium twice, and both times I found it to be an excellent venue with a great atmosphere. It’s exciting for me to be returning to the Northeast and getting going here.

Following the confirmation of Charman’s signing earlier this week, Hunter’s arrival marks the beginning of Darren Sarll’s overhaul of the Pools team.

Sarll remarked, “We met Jack some time ago.” You could sense his humility and genuine desire to play for Hartlepool United right away. While I was researching Jack, I couldn’t help but be impressed by his previous seasons in Halifax, especially the one where they finished above us and made it to the playoffs. His profile matched in perfectly with how I want this new midfield to look.

“His humble performances are essential to building winning conditions, and his selfless approach to playing for his teams is a reflection of his nature. Furthermore, Jack is another athlete from the Northeast, and he chose us over other teams mostly because he wanted to return home.

“Those ideals immediately shone out when we first met him, indicating that this was a guy who wanted to not only win but also advance and get better. This season, I’m thrilled to collaborate with Jack in the hopes that he can help the team score some important points.

Darren Sarll’s message to fans ahead of the new season

Published

Ahead of the next National League season, Hartlepool United manager Darren Sarll has sent out a rallying cry to the team’s supporters.

After being relegated back to the National League, the team’s disappointing 12th place performance in the previous season has made for a miserable few years for the beleaguered supporters.

But in recent weeks, the North East has seen a glimmer of hope thanks to four intriguing additions, including Adam Campbell, the winner of League Two promotion.

And as he works to assemble a team that can contend for promotion, Sarll, who has previously guided both Woking and Yeovil to the National League play-offs, is urging fans to have hope.

“I’d like to think that would be the definition of being a supporter – having optimism around their team,” he stated.

Like every season, the evidence will be in the eating, regardless of whether our supporters think we’ll have a successful campaign.

“It’s critical that we reciprocate in these early preseason games.

“People claim that they are simply preseason games, but that is untrue.

“They are there to practise winning, to get in shape, and to instill the ideas that will guide our success over the following ten months.

It’s critical that they recognise the team’s work ethic and resolve from the beginning.

“Blocks and shoots are what English supporters are hoping to see.

“I don’t know if they want to see tricks and nutmegs in Spain, but what they want to see is true effort.

“A trier is adored by all; it’s a very significant component.

We currently possess the building blocks of a really strong team.

“We’ve added some good athletes, some strong technical skill, and some nice character.

“Especially in terms of possession, we have expanded upon the previous group. We seem to have become much stronger without property.

“We’ve got a long, long way to go yet.”
