The driver of the tanker truck, according to Fleetwood Police, was sent to the hospital for assessment, but the passenger in the car that collided with the truck, Kenneth Swartzentruber, 18, did not survive.

“We were provided with more details indicating that there were injuries, and upon arriving at the scene, we discovered one male deceased,” stated Fleetwood Police Chief Dale Ulshafer.

In order to complete their thorough crash recreation and investigation, crews stopped Route 12 between Mt. Laurel Road and Route 662 and Route 73 between Hartz Road and 662. It could have been considerably worse, according to the chief.

Fortunately, it appears that the tanker was now empty. Ulshafer stated, “If it was carrying flammable liquids as indicated by the placard, but there was no leakage, no danger to the community.”

A makeover is presently underway at the normally bustling junction during morning and evening rush hours.

“Construction is now underway in this area. It’s now being built; I’m not sure if that was the case at the time of the disaster, Ulshafer added.

One man was interviewed by 69 News regarding the traffic at the crossroads.

According to local resident Jeffrey Broad, “this is a busy intersection and it’s a tight square here if you’re four-way traffic coming up and down 73 and going across Pricetown Road.”

He expresses the hope that the continuing road construction may lessen the number of terrible collisions like this one in the future.

This area sees a lot of traffic accidents, particularly when crossing Pricetown Road and ascending into Allentown. Many truck drivers frequently pass through this area.
