Authorities in Greater Manchester think the body found in a park today belongs to a vulnerable man who vanished a few days ago.

Barton Aqueduct Pocket Park in Barton upon Irwell, Salford, has a cordone in place starting on Saturday morning.

The body was discovered near where Andrew Heys, 21, was last seen a few days ago, although it has not yet been officially recognised.

The’sad’ finding was communicated to Andrew’s family, according to Greater Manchester Police, although his death was not being investigated.

After being found by police, the body was transported in a private ambulance.

A sidewalk near the Manchester Ship Canal’s Barton Road Swing Bridge was blocked by a police cordon.

Nearby residents claimed to have seen marine unit and specialised water search vehicles at the park on Saturday morning at around 11:00.

‘Our thoughts and sincerest condolences remain with Andrew’s family and friends at this time,’ stated Detective Inspector Mike Sharples.

Since Andrew was originally reported missing to us, officers and specialised resources have been searching for him day and night. I would like to express my gratitude to the public for sharing our pleas and helping with our investigation.

“At this point, our top priority is to make sure we can support the family and obtain the required information for his loved ones.”

According to the MEN, in 2021 Andrew, also known as Andy, was diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis while working as an engineer at the Co-op Live Arena.

Due to his condition, he had to regain his ability to move and speak.

His last known location was his Eccles home on Monday night, the eve of his scheduled appointment the following day.

His pals called him the “funniest guy in the group,” while his mother Jeanette characterised him as “friendly and approachable.”
