Louie Sibley, a Derby County academy graduate, has now disclosed the main cause of his departure from Pride Park following the completion of a deal to join Oxford United permanently.

Derby made the unexpected announcement of Louie Sibley’s leaving on Tuesday night. After over 14 years and 173 games for the Rams, the gifted young player departed Pride Park.

March 2020 saw Sibley make his Championship debut for the team he grew up with, and ever since then, he has been a mainstay in the starting lineup.

The adaptable Englishman played 44 games in all competitions last season, mostly as a left wing-back, helping Paul Warne’s team return to the second division.

After being promoted, the Rams academy alum was expected to sign a new deal with the team, but he turned down the opportunity and has since given a major explanation for why.

The wing-back’s best hope of playing in the Championship was to re-sign with Derby, who did give him the opportunity to follow them to their new home in the second division.

He turned down that chance, and even though it was a difficult decision, it might have been the right one for him in the end.

His amount of minutes and starts from the previous campaign suggest that he is a player who might have a significant impact on the Championship.

His goal is to play at that level and beyond, but before he can accomplish so, he must establish himself as one of League One’s best players.
