Hull Kingston Rovers (Hull KR) have solidified their forward pack by securing a long-term commitment from Australian prop Jai Whitbread. The club announced that Whitbread has signed a three-year extension, ensuring his presence at Craven Park until the end of the 2029 Super League season.
Whitbread, who joined Hull KR ahead of the 2024 season, has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes. He made an immediate impact by debuting in the season opener against arch-rivals Hull F.C., contributing to a commanding 22-0 victory. Throughout the 2024 season, Whitbread’s consistent performances were pivotal in Hull KR’s journey to the Super League Grand Final, where they faced Wigan.
In the current 2025 season, Whitbread has maintained his impressive form. Notably, in round three, he showcased his offensive capabilities by scoring two tries in a dominant 42-0 win over Salford, underscoring his value to the team.
Hull KR’s head coach, Willie Peters, expressed his enthusiasm about Whitbread’s extended contract, stating that the prop forward has been a standout performer since his arrival. Peters emphasized that securing Whitbread’s services aligns with the club’s long-term vision and ambition to compete at the highest levels of the Super League.
Whitbread’s rugby league journey began in Australia, where he played for the South Tweed Bears during his junior years. He later represented the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL before moving to the UK. Prior to joining Hull KR, he had notable stints with Leigh and Wakefield Trinity, amassing valuable experience in the Super League.
Reflecting on his decision to commit his future to Hull KR, Whitbread expressed his excitement about the club’s direction and the supportive environment fostered by both the coaching staff and fans. He highlighted the team’s camaraderie and the ambition to achieve silverware in the coming seasons.
