There was discussion of Rangers this summer, but Scotland’s Kenny McLean insists he sees being down south for the foreseeable future.
The midfielder has been with Norwich City since 2018, following spells at St Mirren and Aberdeen. Steve Clarke has called him up again for Scotland’s Nations League matches against Croatia and Portugal.
McLean, at 32, understands that he is no longer in the youthful camp, but he has been guaranteed of a significant role in the English Championship by new Canaries manager Johannes Hoff Thorup. Rumours circulated in the summer that Rangers may have provided a return home, but McLean remains as content as ever in England.
When asked if there was anything in the Rangers chat, McLean replied, “There wasn’t much that needed to be said, to be honest. The manager was at the door for a few weeks and spoke with him. He’d made it known in public that he preferred youthful players, and I didn’t exactly meet that description!
But when I chatted with him, he realized he needed some experience with the place, and I’d been there a long time. He informed me I was still an important element of the plan. So, for me, that meant feeling secure and focussing on Norwich rather than elsewhere. It was resolved fairly soon.
