AFC Wimbledon player leave on loan deal

Published

Young people have the opportunity to depart during the summer window; these two could depart AFC Wimbledon this summer.

From Jack Rudoni to Jack Currie, tremendous players have come from the AFC Wimbledon academy.

And the current generation of young players is no different, with several young players, such Morgan Williams and Ethan Sutcliffe, making their League Two debuts for Johnnie Jackson’s team during 2023–2024.

To develop them as a player and as a resource for the team, however, the decision of who should go on loan must be the main emphasis of this window.

In light of that, the following two emerging stars of the Dons would profit from a brief sojourn abroad.

Aron Sasu

Many in the Dons’ inner circle have long considered Croydon-born, Norweigan youth international Aron Sasu to be a tremendous prospect. Sasu has been at Wimbledon since 2016.

In the summer of 2022–2023, he inked his first professional contract after scoring 17 goals in all academy events. However, Jackson maintained Sasu at the team despite the widespread belief among the supporters that the 6′ 4in winger would leave on loan.

Since making his debut in 2021, he had already appeared in a few EFL Trophy games. In 2023–2024, Jackson would mostly employ the wideman in his team selections as the Dons advanced to the competition’s quarterfinals. In December, Wimbledon defeated Portsmouth, the winners of the League One title, 5-2, and he even scored his first goal as a professional in the game.

His League Two performances, however, have frequently fallen short of expectations; although the winger always dazzles his opponent, he rarely produces anything of note. In that regard, it would be accurate to say that he is still a little raw.

Because of this, the 19-year-old would gain by leaving the team on loan; the top end of the National League would be a good place for him to go, provided that Jackson and Wimbledon strengthen both flanks this summer.

The Dons have had numerous injuries in key areas this season, and with young players Ryan McLean and Paris Lock out due to injury, their backup options are limited.

Sasu has shown the Wimbledon supporters what he is capable of, but a loan stint away from the team, regular playing, goals, and assists might make him a valuable asset for Jackson down the road.

Kai Jennings

Though he made his debut later than Sasu, Kai Jennings is undoubtedly a player deserving of a spot in the starting lineup. As such, the captain of the under-18s is presently debating whether to sign a professional contract at Wimbledon.

At the age of seventeen, he made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy against Wycombe Wanderers in November, marking his first experience playing for Jackson’s team.

As is usually the case with young players who make an impact, he will probably sign a contract with the Dons. His successful loan stint with Whitehawk FC in the later half of 2023–2024 has further strengthened his case for additional testing in and around a first-team setting.

During his tenure at the Hawks, he made 11 appearances, scoring twice and even winning the man of the match award against Carshalton Athletic.

Wimbledon’s midfield is already full of talent; this season, first-team players Jake Reeves and James Ball both made strong impressions. Morgan Williams, on the other hand, managed the middle of the park whenever he got the chance, despite making just five appearances for the first team before going on loan to Woking FC.

Because of this, Jennings ought to go out on loan to a minor league team once more, but this time with the intention of joining a team in the National League South or even lower divisions.

Wimbledon supporters should expect to see the return of a superb box-to-box midfield operator who can pass and score with ease, a la Jack Rudoni, if he is given the proper amount of playing time for a player of his age while on loan.

Wimbledon continues to keep the Academy category three classification that was granted back in 2018 and consistently produces young players that go on to perform for the first team or shine out on loan, so it appears that the talent factory is not stopping anytime soon.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say I’m convinced there’s little in the speculation. Firstly, it conforms to the rule of three – where there are three clubs linked, it is often a sign

AFC Wimbledon are set for a cash windfall this summer, with former academy graduate Jack Rudoni likely to leave Huddersfield this summer.

According to the South London Press, when Rudoni was traded to the Terriers in July 2022, the Dons agreed to a 20% sell-on fee.

Although Ayoub Assal and Ali Al-Hamadi have surpassed that amount in the last two seasons, Rudoni’s departure from Plough Lane was the club’s highest-profile sale of the Phoenix period at the time.

Over his tenure in the first squad, the now 22-year-old made over 100 appearances for the Dons in all competitions and contributed 30 goals.

Rudoni has been a regular starter for Huddersfield in the Championship, helping them get demoted to League One while contributing three assists and five goals this season.

This season, the dynamic midfielder from Carshalton has played in a variety of roles for Huddersfield, a Yorkshire team that has had three permanent managers during the course of the campaign.
