This morning, there are massive lines forming on the M6 near Wigan due to issues on both sides of the road.

A broken-down vehicle has blocked two lanes on the southbound side between junction 23 and junction 22, close to Ashton-in-Makerfield. As of right now, traffic is backing up to the closure for about ten miles, according to National Highways.

“#M6 southbound near #Ashton-in-Makerfield – between J23 and J22 2 lanes (of 3) are closed due to a broken down vehicle,” read a post on X National Highways. The car is being retrieved. 45-minute approach delays, ten miles of traffic, and a return to J27 #Standish.”

Due to a “shed load,” two lanes are also closed on the northbound side of the M6 this morning. Between Ashton-in-Makerfield at junction 24 and Bryn at junction 25, the lanes are blocked.

There are lengthy lines forming on this side of the motorway due to heavy traffic.

Lanes still closed on M6 northbound

Two lanes remain closed on the M6 northbound this morning.

They are shut from J24 to J25.

Four-mile queues on northbound side of M6

Two lanes are still shut on the northbound side of the motorway near Ashton-in-Makerfield.

There are delays of around 30 minutes and four mile queues.

The closure is due to a lorry losing its trailer, National Highways said.

Delays remain on both sides of the M6

Two lanes are closed from J24 to J25 on the northbound side of the M6, causing lengthy delays.

Due to the earlier-injured vehicle, traffic is still slow on the southbound side between J23 and J22.

Congestion is back to junction 22.

Two lanes are also closed on the northbound side of the M6 this morning.

They are shut from J24 to J25 due to a shed load.

Long delays are building up to this closure.

10-mile queues on the M6 southbound

The M6 southbound has two lanes closed from J23 to J22.

Traffic is currently queuing for around 10 miles with 45 minute delays.
