Philippe Clement’s “modern, attacking football” at Rangers has made him a favourite to take the Anderlecht position.
With just three wins from their eight league games, the team was placed sixth, and Danish coach Brian Riemer was fired last week, leaving the position open at the Belgian powerhouse. They need a boost, and Clement—who has a tonne of experience in the league—has been mentioned in the local press as a potential possibility.
The fifty-year-old possesses the necessary qualifications because he has won three Belgian managerial championships—two with Club Brugge and one with Genk. Nordin Jbari, a former striker for Anderlecht and Belgium international, believes that both the Gers manager and former Antwerp manager Mark van Bommel would be excellent candidates.
Clement just signed a contract extension with Ibrox through 2028, but his affiliation with rival team Brugge may also provide a problem. Jbari, meanwhile, has downplayed that as a possible obstacle.
He said: “Philippe Clement likes to play modern, attacking football. He would be a very interesting option, even though he used to play for and manage Club Brugge.
“There’s obviously a financial aspect to it too because he’s at Rangers and whether he would even consider a move to Anderlecht. But he’s definitely an option for Anderlecht alongside van Bommel.”
