During the summer transfer window, when nine new players arrived at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday performed well.

Danny Rohl desired that his squad move quickly to assemble the starting lineup. And the Owls accomplished just that, adding eight new players before to their preseason trip to Germany and Austria.

The ninth and last summer hire in S6 was Shea Charles. But the Owls’ summer business appeared to have missed one thing after the summer transfer window closed and some disappointing Championship performances.

Even in the summer, Wednesday didn’t seem like a strong centre back, much less after deadline day had past. Di’Shon Bernard was also suffering from suspensions and injuries, while Dominic Iorfa was out as well.

However, one person has recently stepped up to the plate and helped the club’s lack of of centre-back options.

of centre-back options.

Only three of Wednesday’s first seven league games this season have included Akin Famewo, and those three games are the Owls’ final three league games this season.

Famewo started the season with a slight injury. Since then, though, the 25-year-old has been playing excellent defence, turning in three strong performances.

Famewo led Sheffield Wednesday in both accurate passes (27) and defensive actions (eight) against West Brom. He also provided a precise assist for Josh Windass’ header.

Last season, Famewo was somewhat a contentious player among fans. But during the pre-season, Rohl persisted on playing Famewo, and since his return to fitness he’s become an important player.

Danny Rohl effect has worked wonders for Akin Famewo

Numerous players on Sheffield Wednesday have improved significantly since Rohl was appointed in October of last year.

With his performances this season, Famewo is demonstrating that he is another person who is much benefited by Rohl’s magic.

The Englishman is shown himself to be a highly dependable defensive player. He is strong both aerially and on the ground, and his passing game has improved to match Rohl’s preferred style of play.

Despite the fact that there are still not enough centre backs, Famewo’s recent improvement in play has drawn attention away from the position’s problems.

On Wednesday night, Sheffield Wednesday takes on Bristol City in the Championship.
