Darren Sarll’s message to fans ahead of the new season

Published

Ahead of the next National League season, Hartlepool United manager Darren Sarll has sent out a rallying cry to the team’s supporters.

After being relegated back to the National League, the team’s disappointing 12th place performance in the previous season has made for a miserable few years for the beleaguered supporters.

But in recent weeks, the North East has seen a glimmer of hope thanks to four intriguing additions, including Adam Campbell, the winner of League Two promotion.

And as he works to assemble a team that can contend for promotion, Sarll, who has previously guided both Woking and Yeovil to the National League play-offs, is urging fans to have hope.

“I’d like to think that would be the definition of being a supporter – having optimism around their team,” he stated.

Like every season, the evidence will be in the eating, regardless of whether our supporters think we’ll have a successful campaign.

“It’s critical that we reciprocate in these early preseason games.

“People claim that they are simply preseason games, but that is untrue.

“They are there to practise winning, to get in shape, and to instill the ideas that will guide our success over the following ten months.

It’s critical that they recognise the team’s work ethic and resolve from the beginning.

“Blocks and shoots are what English supporters are hoping to see.

“I don’t know if they want to see tricks and nutmegs in Spain, but what they want to see is true effort.

“A trier is adored by all; it’s a very significant component.

We currently possess the building blocks of a really strong team.

“We’ve added some good athletes, some strong technical skill, and some nice character.

“Especially in terms of possession, we have expanded upon the previous group. We seem to have become much stronger without property.

“We’ve got a long, long way to go yet.”

Hartlepool United sign former Newcastle academy youngster Jack Hunter

Jack Hunter, an accomplished midfielder, was released by National League competition Halifax Town, and he was signed by HARTLEPOOL UNITED

After Luke Charman, the 26-year-old will sign with Pools as a free agent at the end of the month, making him the team’s second summer acquisition.

Hunter, a North-East native and graduate of Newcastle United’s academy, played for Gateshead when they won the National League North in 2022.

After that, he relocated to Halifax, where he spent two years playing in the National League, making over 100 appearances, many of which saw him line up alongside current Pools striker Mani Dieseruvwe.

Hunter declared, “I’m ecstatic to be here at the club.” It’s been a long time in the making. My decision to come here was greatly influenced by the gaffer’s ambitions for the club and for using me, which I was aware of from our first talk.

“Over the past few years, I’ve grown a lot, and I’m eager to share my expertise from my time in Halifax and Gateshead. I’ve had the opportunity to play football at the Suit Direct Stadium twice, and both times I found it to be an excellent venue with a great atmosphere. It’s exciting for me to be returning to the Northeast and getting going here.

Following the confirmation of Charman’s signing earlier this week, Hunter’s arrival marks the beginning of Darren Sarll’s overhaul of the Pools team.

Sarll remarked, “We met Jack some time ago.” You could sense his humility and genuine desire to play for Hartlepool United right away. While I was researching Jack, I couldn’t help but be impressed by his previous seasons in Halifax, especially the one where they finished above us and made it to the playoffs. His profile matched in perfectly with how I want this new midfield to look.

“His humble performances are essential to building winning conditions, and his selfless approach to playing for his teams is a reflection of his nature. Furthermore, Jack is another athlete from the Northeast, and he chose us over other teams mostly because he wanted to return home.

“Those ideals immediately shone out when we first met him, indicating that this was a guy who wanted to not only win but also advance and get better. This season, I’m thrilled to collaborate with Jack in the hopes that he can help the team score some important points.

Hartlepool United boss’ message

Here are ten things Hartlepool United has to achieve in order to challenge towards the top of the table next season, as the National League return draws nearer and the team under new manager Darren Sarll begins to take shape.
Darren Sarll, manager of Hartlepool United, offers his tips for a great season.

At least one new custodian will likely be at the top of Sarll’s wish list. Joel Dixon, who was placed on the transfer list at the end of the previous season, is a troubled player who only managed one clean sheet in 26 appearances. Dixon might profit from a new beginning. It might be more difficult to shift the 30-year-old stopper from Barrow and Bolton, who has struggled with his kicking, confidence, and area command since moving to the North East. In that scenario, Pools will probably try to sign a new number one while keeping Dixon as a backup. Pete Jameson ended the season strong, recording three straight home clean sheets, after having a lacklustre loan stint the previous season.accessible for free after being released from Harrogate. Sarll is also keeping an eye on Zan-Luk Leban of Everton, though he’s reportedly one of several goalkeepers that Pools are considering. The 15-year-old Slovenian under-21 international had a trial at Barcelona, but last season he played a standout season on loan at National League North team Farsley Celtic.

In addition to having issues with goalkeeping the previous season, Pools’ weakest area was their midfield; both Callum Cooke and Tom Crawford, members of the midfield trio that finished the previous season in the team, have been released; Nicky Featherstone, who turns 36 in September, has signed a new, ‘transitional’, player-coach contract and it’s unclear how much of a role he is set to play on the pitch; and Sarll has brought in workmanlike pair Jack Hunter and Nathan Sheron, who appear to in the engine room, but may still believe Pools need another body at the base of midfield. Considering Mancini’s inconsistent injury history and unclear future, having an additional creative member would be beneficial.

With his 25 goals, 23 of which came in the league, Dieseruvwe became just the fourth player in Pools history to score 20 goals or more in the league in a single season. In addition to his brutality in front of goal, he draws attention to himself, poses a threat in both boxes, draws a lot of fouls, takes penalties without hesitation, and forged an outstanding relationship with Joe Grey. It’s not surprise that after having his best-ever campaign, he’s become the focus of rumours and conjecture, but Pools are quick to clarify that no bids have been made for their lucky frontman as of yet.

The 23-year-old’s rise was hindered by injuries after he lit up the North East during a trial last summer and then had such an amazing start to his Pools career. After suffering a hamstring injury at the end of August, he was sidelined until Boxing Day. Although he scored a fantastic long-range goal against Ebbsfleet in January, he was unable to regain his brilliant form until a nagging groyne issue ended his campaign early. After reportedly recuperating in his home country of France, fans will be itching to witness the peak of the former Accrington Stanley player more frequently. He will need to adjust to the new manager’s pressing style since he might not be a natural fit in a Darren Sarll side, but if he can repeat the performances from August of last year, he will become invaluable to Pools.
