Leigh Leopards coach share update about injured players

Before Friday’s trip to Leeds Rhinos, Leigh Leopards coach Adrian Lam has offered an update on the status of John Asiata, Robbie Mulhern, and Keanan Brand’s injuries.

Asiata, the captain of Leigh, has played in just three games this season. His most recent game was on April 26, when Leigh defeated Catalans Dragons. Despite this, he is almost healed from his hamstring injury.

Mulhern, an England international prop, has been in and out of Lam’s lineup this season because of a few calf problems.

The forward duo won’t play against the Rhinos, according to Leigh coach Lam, speaking at his weekly news conference before Friday’s trip to Headingley. However, they should be eligible for their Round 16 match on July 5 against the nearby Wigan Warriors.

“Robbie Mulhern and John Asiata, two of our most important players, are the players that are left to return,” Lam stated. “Hopefully, both of them will return for the Wigan match in two more rounds.”

“This weekend is the international round, which will give them three weeks to recover. Hopefully, by the Wigan match, everyone will be ready to play and complete the second half of the season.

John is now playing well, but according to our policy, in order to return to play after an injury, players must spend two full weeks on the pitch performing all other duties, including contact and high metres. Since he’s currently playing, Wigan would be the best option in terms of his availability, but we’ll decide that week.

Meanwhile, after sustaining a knee injury during their Challenge, utility back Brand has almost finished recovering.victory on March 23 in the Cup over Featherstone Rovers.

“Keanan’s work is done on a weekly basis,” Lam continued. “I believe he’ll be okay this week or next week, so we should see him back on the pitch in the next two weeks.”
