Prolific thief arrested in Mansfield today

Published

on

A notorious thief was apprehended by the authorities after they discovered him and pursued him.
Adam Spencer was spotted by county priority tasking team officers while they were on patrol in Sutton.

When they discovered Spencer was wanted for a number of shoplifting and break-ins, they attempted to apprehend him at the Lammas Road wayside.

The 40-year-old attempted to ride away after getting on his pushbike, but the officers pursuing him soon caught up with him.
On Tuesday, May 28, Spencer was identified by the officers, as he was being investigated at the time by the county priority tasking team for several offences against stores.

On May 2, two of these incidents occurred in the wee hours of the same day. Spencer broke into an Iceland on Priestsic Road in Sutton.
The robber stole meat supplies at 2.40 am after sneaking in through a back entrance. He returned at 4.20 am and stole more than £300 worth of stock.

Spencer then helped himself to merchandise from three further Sutton-in-Ashfield establishments during a string of shoplifting incidents that occurred either side of these two crimes.

The first shoplifting incident occurred on April 11 at Tesco in Alfreton Road. The shoplifter then targeted the Asda and Iceland businesses located on Priestsic Road on April 17 and May 19.

During one of the robberies, he stole 17 Pringles pots, which Spencer later acknowledged to police when they questioned him, telling them that “once you pop, you can’t stop.”

When Spencer appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 29, he entered a guilty plea to two burglaries and three thefts. He was sentenced to six months in prison, with the remaining twelve months suspended.
In addition, Spencer, of Northfield Close, Sutton, was mandated to fulfil a six-month drug rehabilitation required programme and pay £200 in compensation.

The activities of serial burglars like Spencer may have a genuinely detrimental impact on communities, who don’t want to see their stores attacked repeatedly, according to PC Dean Fenton of Nottinghamshire Police.

We were happy to be able to connect Spencer to the two burglaries he was involved in as well as the shop thefts and bring him before the courts since burglary is a very severe charge.
