The Green Bay Packers, led by Jordan Love, made just enough plays to defeat the Chicago Bears once more.
It required a blocked field goal and a late touchdown this time.
Karl Brooks stopped Cairo Santos’ 46-yard kick as time ran out, and Love rushed for the game-winning goal in the final seconds as Green Bay held on to defeat Chicago 20-19 on Sunday.
With just four catches for 150 yards, including a 60-yarder that set up Love’s touchdown run, Christian Watson set a career high, and the Packers (7-3) avoided dropping further behind Detroit and Minnesota in the NFC North. Additionally, they defeated the Bears in last place (4-6) for the eleventh consecutive game, which is the longest run by either club in the legendary rivalry.
According to Love, we knew it was going to be a four-quarter battle, four-quarter game. And the boys have my admiration. No one flinched or batted an eye. It wasn’t our greatest or ideal game by any means.
With 2:59 remaining, Love scored from the 1 to put Green Bay ahead 20-19. The long pass to Watson, who jumped up after making a lunging catch and ran all the way to the 14, set up that touchdown. When Jaylon Johnson of Chicago hooked his feet with Watson while attempting to defend the pass, he stumbled.
Love ran 13 yards and was stopped just short of the end zone, but he scored on the following play. The 2-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
Outstanding play, amazing catch by Christian, and then, of course, the awareness to get up without getting touched and go execute a huge run.
I’m proud of the way Christian balled out and I think he made some big-time plays and catches in the game, Love said.
Caleb Williams was sacked by Green Bay on the first two plays of the subsequent possession. But Williams rallied when he was down to third and 19. On consecutive plays, the No. 1 overall pick hit fellow rookie Rome Odunze with passes to get the ball into Packers territory.
as driving all the way to the 28th, the Bears lost for the fourth time in a row as Brooks broke through the middle of the line and blocked Santos’ kick with his left hand.
Brooks stated, I kind of knew, like, I’m going to block this. I told myself that. The call reached me. Hey, just do this, this for me, I said to Lukas (Van Ness), who was standing next to me. I got my hands on it after he did.
In an attempt to invigorate a team that is among the worst in the NFL, the Bears sacked offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday and appointed passing game coach Thomas Brown in his place.
Love gained 261 yards and a touchdown on 13 of 17 passes. In addition, he made his league-high eleventh interception, matching his total from the previous season.
For the Packers, Josh Jacobs ran for 76 yards and a touchdown. Green Bay defeated Chicago for the 26th time in 29 games thanks to sacks from Rashan Gary, T.J. Slaton, and Brenton Cox, who was active for the first time this season.
Following three games of regression, Williams rushed for 70 yards and passed for 231 yards.
D’Andre Swift of Chicago gained 71 yards on 14 carries. Near the end of the third quarter, he scored a 39-yard pass to put the Bears ahead 19–14.
There were many things to be happy about,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus stated. That is your obligation. The offence hadn’t performed well over the past three weeks. On defence, we hadn’t performed well with additional balls. For the past three weeks, we hadn’t done much together, but today we played complementing football.
Early in the second quarter, the Packers had a 7-3 lead and were poised to extend it. However, under pressure on third down at the 15, Love—who has been intercepted at least once in every game—overthrew Tucker Kraft, and Terrell Smith intercepted it at the 1.
Then, in the last minute of a Week 8 loss against Washington, the Bears scored their first touchdown. Roschon Johnson finished a 13-play drive with a powerful shot from the 1 in the last seconds of the half. The offence had failed to reach the end zone after 25 possessions.
