Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to Stevenage at Wrexham has left Phil Parkinson with a new ailment to deal with.

After taking on Leyton Orient the previous weekend, Wrexham embarked on a second lengthy journey in a short period of time.

In that match, Phil Parkinson received a point in a scoreless draw, but on Tuesday night at Stevenage, he suffered a loss.

Louis Thompson scored the sole goal of the game after 10 minutes, blasting a long-range effort beyond Arthur Okonkwo.

In a very lacklustre performance, Wrexham controlled possession in an attempt to equalise, but they were unable to hit the net.

George Evans picks up injury in Wrexham defeat

Parkinson made a handful of changes from Saturday’s stalemate against Leyton Orient.

Dan Scarr came in for the injured Max Cleworth whilst Sebastian Revan started at left wing back with James McClean moving infield.

Steven Fletcher was handed a start in attack too whilst George Evans came in for Andy Cannon in midfield.

Parkinson lauded Evans’ effect following the game at Leyton Orient on Saturday, where Evans had taken Cannon’s position.

As a result, the former Manchester City player was handed the opportunity to start against Stevenage, but things didn’t go according to plan.

Shortly after the half, Evans was replaced by Cannon due to an additional injury.

Evans ‘felt something break,’ according to boss Parkinson, who also told BBC Sport that his probable absence would be a ‘big setback’ for Wrexham.

“It’s such a shame for George because he has worked hard to get back into the team,” said Parkinson.

“He felt something crack. I don’t know what it is, but it is a huge blow,” he added as Parkinson deals with another concern.

Evans injury record at Wrexham

Wrexham pounced to sign Evans from Millwall in 2023, landing a proven Championship midfielder in the process.

The 29-year-old signed an initial two year but but penned a new contract back in July, committing his future to the club until 2026.

Evans played an important role last season but missed around six weeks of action from February to the end of March last season through injury.

The problems have been prominent already this season too with Evans picking up a groin injury in August.

This latest problem is another setback for Evans and we can only hope to see him fit and firing again soon as his experience and composure on the ball can be a real asset this season.

It was an evening to forget for Phil Parkinson when he took his Wrexham side to Broadhall Way for a meeting with Stevenage.

None of the starting lineup adjustments made by the former Bolton Wanderers manager actually paid off.

Despite having an abundance of excellent options for centre forwards, Wrexham did not pose a serious threat offensively against Stevenage.

Louis Thompson gave Stevenage the lead after just ten minutes, and they managed to cling on for a 1-0 victory.

With one game remaining in the season, the Red Dragons are now five points behind Birmingham City in League One after that loss.

Thomas O’Connor struggled for Wrexham at Stevenage as did a number of other players but there was one shining spark for Parkinson.
