The group that is rumoured to control Sheffield United, headed by Tom Page, had previously expressed interest in buying Championship teams Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion.

In their ongoing effort to own an EFL team, the Blades bidders attempted to acquire both the Baggies and the Lilywhites, as Alan Nixon recently disclosed on Patreon.

But while the Blades are facing uncertainty surrounding their takeover, as Nixon reported, potential buyer Page is reportedly looking to bring in an Albanian investor to facilitate a cash injection, the Baggies are happy under Shilen Patel’s ownership and are off to a strong start in the new season.

Pundit makes West Brom, Patel admission

Carlton Palmer made the following statement exclusively to Football League World: “It’s becoming known that the American buyers for Sheffield United have attempted to purchase multiple other teams in the past.

It seems that they attempted to acquire Preston North End and also entertained the idea of purchasing West Bromwich Albion.

“Showfield United is currently in limbo despite reports that an agreement to purchase the team from Prince Abdullah, the present owner, has been reached by the American consortium.

“You can see that West Bromwich Albion is at the top of the league, so I’m sure they’re happy that they got Shilen Patel, but the situation just rumbles on.”

“Despite several clubs wanting to sign their manager, Carlos Corberan, for the summer, they have managed to hold onto him.

“Corberan is clearly pleased with the team and its direction going forward.

“Shilen Patel has made investments in the facilities, the training field, and the football team’s future, so West Bromwich Albion will be pleased with their acquisition of Patel right now.

It appears that the American bidders are currently attempting to entice an Albanian investor to contribute funds to the Bramall Lane club, thus the rumours are still spreading.

“West Brom are in a better position than Sheffield United at this current moment in time.”

Baggies must be happy with Patel ownership

While it has recently been revealed that things could have been different for the Baggies, with Page also interested in purchasing the West Midlands club, the Hawthorns faithful must be pleased with Patel’s ownership so far.

The American became the Baggies’ majority shareholder and chairman back in February, and under his ownership, Corberan’s men landed a play-off spot last campaign.

As mentioned by Palmer, Corberan is clearly impressed by the way in which his club is being run by Patel, as he stayed at the Hawthorns over the summer despite the fact that he was wanted by higher profile outfits.

The Athletic reported back in June that Corberan was a leading candidate for the then managerial vacancy at top-flight newboys and former Premier League champions Leicester City, following the departure of Enzo Maresca.

The fact that the Spaniard remained in the Championship with the Baggies demonstrates the faith that he has in Patel’s ownership, and that he believes they can win promotion together.

Furthermore, Corberan’s men won five of their opening seven second-tier fixtures, which shows the quality the Baggies have at their disposal.
