Early in the 2024 season, former Florida State players have been making plays all across the NFL, and another name might soon be added to the mix.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have added former Seminole linebacker Kalen DeLoach to their practice squad. Prior to being released in August, DeLoach spent the preseason with the Buccaneers after signing as an undrafted free agent.
DeLoach recorded two stops on special teams and five tackles in his two preseason games. His performance working with the 1s and 2s in practice won him accolades. He was sidelined for the majority of camp due to a groin ailment, but it looks he’s well enough to begin playing again.
Following SirVocea Dennis’s injury during Tampa Bay’s victory over Philadelphia on Sunday, the Buccaneers are dealing with a prolonged absence in their linebacker room. DeLoach was able to join the practice squad after Dennis was placed on injured reserve and Antonio Grier was upgraded to the active roster.
With 212 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions, 11 pass deflections, and a defensive score, the Georgia native is coming off a standout career at Florida State.
During his final two years with the team, DeLoach led the Seminoles to consecutive double-digit win seasons. He was a vital leader both on the field and in the locker room. In 2023, DeLoach was selected to the second team of the ACC after Florida State won its first ACC Championship in nine years.
