The stalemate ended just before 5 p.m. when the man was escorted away by police and the cordon was lifted. It is stated that during the incident, the man made violent threats on Facebook and TikTok.

A police negotiator was present to have a conversation with the individual, according to Merseyside Police. Later, he was taken into custody on charges of threatening to kill and affray.

“We can confirm that a 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and affray,” a Merseyside Police spokesperson stated. He is being held by the cops right now.

“The scene is no longer under lockdown. We would want to express our gratitude to the area businesses and citizens for their unwavering patience as this matter was handled.”

The ECHO was informed by a woman who works near the cordon that “we just heard the sirens as police arrived this morning.” All that is known is that a man appears to be threatening someone while leaning out of a window with a knife.

Merseyside Police confirmed that officers are currently at a flat on Liverpool Road in St Helens, an ECHO representative said.

“At 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, officers were called in response to an allegation that a man had made threats at the property. A police negotiator is present and trying to talk to the man; the situation has been sealed off.

An examination has revealed that the damage caused by a fire in an apartment above a row of stores last week was so “extensive” that the origin of the blaze could not be identified.

Around 1:00 pm, seven fire engines arrived on the site, and cordons were put up on Thatto Heath Road while emergency personnel battled the fire.

As firefighters arrived, they discovered a first-floor apartment over a row of stores to be “well ablaze.”

According to the fire brigade, the fire was contained to the roof spaces of four terraced houses made of brick.

There was smoke coming from the buildings.

Road closures were implemented as firefighters battled the fire for more than six hours.

In an attempt to put out the fire, workers were observed using a crane to crack up the roof.

Following the incident, a representative for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service stated: “On Monday afternoon, fire crews were alerted to a flat fire on Stevens Street, Scholes Lane, Thatto Heath, St Helens.

Seven fire engines and one aerial appliance are now on the scene, having been alerted at 12.59 p.m. and arriving at 1.04 p.m.

“A first-floor apartment over a series of stores was fully lit when the crew arrived. At the scene of the incident, the fire is inside the roof spaces of four terraced houses made of brick.”

He went on to say that everyone who was at the homes had been identified.

After putting out the fire, firefighters continued to monitor temperatures using a thermal imaging camera, address hotspots, and dampen the roof area using an aerial appliance.

He said that all firefighting stopped at 7:07 p.m., and the workers departed the area at 7:25 p.m.

The fire and rescue agency began an investigation to determine what caused the incident.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman provided an update to the Star, stating: “An investigation into the fire has concluded and fire damage was so extensive that a specific cause could not be determined at this time.”
