Wolves make £12.9 offer for Braga’s Rodrigo Gomes

The Portuguese player Rodrigo Gomes has become a prominent prospect for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As per the June 8th, page 21 edition of the Record, the Midlands team has submitted a bid of approximately £12.9 million for the 20-year-old.

Under Gary O’Neil, Wolves had a respectable 2023–24 season, placing 14th in the Premier League with 46 points.

To advance his team to the next level, the English manager intends to bring in a few elite players this summer.

After being pleased with Rodrigo Gomes’s achievements in the Primeira Liga, the Old Gold have made him a target.

He began his professional career at Braga, where he finished with 51 appearances in all competitions and four goal contributions.

The 20-year-old played exceptionally well in Lisbon during his loan spell at Estoril last season.

In 26 Primeira Liga games, he started, tallying seven goals and dishing out seven assists.

The Portuguese player’s deal at Braga expires in 2026, but Wolves’ offer might persuade them to leave this summer.

Gomes still has a lot of room for development because of his youth. Though he can play as a winger as well, his primary position is right back.

The Portugal U-21 international is capable of succeeding in the Premier League, and a deal including him is not expected to be very expensive.

Wolves face tough competition in acquiring Euro 2024 target

Published

According to reports, Wolves has its sights set on a player who is presently at Euro 2024.

After injuries severely limited him in the second half of the previous season, Gary O’Neil is looking to assemble a larger team for the 2024–2025 campaign.

Rodrigo Gomes has already joined the team, while Pedro Lima, a free agent from Sport Recife, is set to sign on July 1. Tommy Doyle has previously made the switch from loan to permanent membership.

It is now reported that Wolves is considering a player who made an impression at Euro 2024.

Wolves showing interest in Hellas Verona star Tomas Suslov

La Arena said last night that Wolves are among the few teams expressing interest in Tomas Suslov, the star of Hellas Verona.

Slovakian winger Suslov has represented his country in matches against Belgium and Ukraine thus far.

He is said to be worth at least £8.5 million and is under contract with Hellas Verona until 2027. As of right now, the Italian club has not received any offers for him. Clubs are currently waiting.

It is suggested that talks won’t begin till Slovakia has qualified out of Euro 2024.

Due to current interest from Roma, Atalanta, and Bologna, Wolves face some fierce competition to sign the player. Germany is receiving additional attention, while Wolves and Nice are also quite interested.

Suslov has started Slovakia’s two Euro 2024 matches from the bench, against Ukraine and Belgium. “Amplely demonstrated that he is a player with an international profile,” is the statement made about him.

More focus on young players for Wolves

Thus, Wolves have been connected to another young talent who could become a major star in the future.

Suslov, 22, is an offensive midfielder who was on loan at Hellas Verona in Italy for the previous campaign before making the switch midway through. Prior to that, he worked as a professional for Groningen of the Netherlands, where he made 96 appearances while contributing 12 assists and five goals.

In light of the ongoing rumours surrounding Pedro Neto, it’s possible that Wolves makes an effort to acquire Suslov. Suslov is a decent dribbler, as evidenced by the fact that he ended the previous season with a little greater take-on success percentage than Neto in the league (51.4% vs. 42%, via fbref).

Even in the event that Wolves could probably use one extra wide forward if Neto stayed.

Nelson Semedo, the fullback for Wolverhampton Wanderers, may be included in Portugal’s squad for the 2024 European Championship, but he doesn’t seem to be prepared for the difficulties ahead.

O Jogo claims that the player only ran around the pitch during his individual training session on Sunday.

According to the report, Roberto Martinez, the manager of Portugal, is now “rooting” for Semedo to be fit for Tuesday’s friendly match against Finland.

The national team has provided no further information regarding the fullback’s injury status, other than to say that he is reportedly in the “recovery process.”
Semedo played in Wolves’ season-ending match against Liverpool, but he was sent off in the first half.

In this tournament, the player will compete against Diogo Dalot of Manchester United for the right-back spot.

Semedo made 41 appearances during his season with Wolves, and he was in the matchday squad for just two Premier League games.

He’ll hope he gets the chance to prove himself in this friendly against Finland, based on O Jogo’s account, which suggests Martinez was willing to give it to him.

Here’s a look at some of the greatest African players returning to club action this weekend following the international break. Africans have been dominating the Premier League so far this season, which can be seen live on Showmax Pro thanks to SuperSport.

Mbeumo Bryan – Brentford
Brentford needed a player to step up and replace the goals that Ivan Toney would have scored because of his lengthy suspension for breaking the Football Association’s gambling guidelines.

Bryan Mbeumo, who has scored four goals this season, has been the man to answer the call. The only player with more goals than the Cameroonian is Erling Haaland.

He has assumed the role of the Bees’ new penalty taker and demonstrated his ability to threaten in open play. His goal against Bournemouth was the result of a deft turn and touch that demonstrated his offensive prowess.

Taiwo Awoniyi has continued where he left off last season, scoring in each of the first three games of this campaign, building on his heroics that kept Nottingham Forest up with goals in the final four games of the competition.

By achieving this, he joined Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor as the only other Africans to score in seven straight Premier League games.

The Nigerian is demonstrating his talent in his second season in the Premier League by scoring goals at prestigious venues like the Emirates and Old Trafford and providing an assist for an unforgettable winner at Stamford Bridge.

Wolves doing deal for hot prospect

This summer, he is eligible for transfer.

In 2023–24, Wolverhampton Wanderers had a strong season, leading many to believe that they would be a relegation challenger.

Many others felt the same way, most notably Phil McNulty, chief football writer for the BBC, who said he had a “very, very worrying feeling” about Gary O’Neil’s Midlands team and projected they would end in 18th place.

Nevertheless, Wolves surprised many by placing an outstanding 14th in the Premier League the previous year. With 46 points at the end, they were 20 points above the relegation zone and dangerously close to finishing in the top half. Only three points separated O’Neil’s squad and tenth-place Crystal Palace at the end.

Wolves’ star players made some significant contributions throughout the team. Their leading scorer, Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, finished with 14 goals and an outstanding eight assists.

Pedro Neto contributed 11 assists and scored twice himself, while Hwang Hee-chan scored 13 goals and provided three assists as well.

Wolves have an excellent foundation to build upon under O’Neil thanks to this season. During the transfer window, they have already been connected to a few players, but one man in particular is reportedly of great interest to the team.

Premier League attacker targeted by Wolve

Armando Broja, a player for Chelsea and Albania, was on loan at Fulham for the second half of the previous season. The striker is now believed to have received permission to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.

At least, that’s what reputable Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas says. Thomas states that Wolves, Everton, and Southampton are the three Premier League teams reportedly interested in acquiring the Albanian, who will represent his nation at Euro 2024 this summer.

Thomas notes in his assessment, nevertheless, that owing to present financial constraints, none of the interested teams—including Wolves—”can afford him.” So, in order to hire him, they would all “need to sell a player.”

Broja’s contract is still pending, but Football Observatory values him at £16.8 million. It seems unlikely that he will cost less than that because his Stamford Bridge contract doesn’t expire until 2028. Chelsea might even ask more because, according to talkSPORT, they requested £50 million in January.

Why Broja would be a good signing

It’s safe to conclude that Broja’s expectations for the last two seasons have not been met. He returned to Chelsea but failed to find opportunities after two productive loan stints, one with Vitesse where he scored ten league goals in the Netherlands and another with Southampton where he scored six goals in the Premier League.

Over the course of two seasons, he has made 25 appearances in the top level for the Blues, although he has only scored twice and failed to reach the back of the goal for Fulham in eight games. He is still a capable centre forward in spite of this; in 2022, when he was still with Chelsea, one content creator called him “special.”

Nevertheless, if Broja joins Wolves, he may ultimately establish himself as Raul Jimenez’s replacement—the club record Premier League goal scorer.

The Mexican was one of the best marksmen in the top flight for two seasons, netting 13 goals in 2018/19 and 17 goals in 2019/20, before a horrifying head injury against Arsenal, when he fractured his skull, keeping him for eight months.

Jimenez played two more seasons at Wolves after his rehabilitation, but he left last summer to join Fulham, Broja’s loan team.

Although Cunha’s goals have been vital, they have failed to find a suitable center-forward to replace him, and at times it has appeared like they have been without an offensive presence. According to Understat, they outscored only five clubs in the Premier League with 50 goals scored over the previous season.

The aforementioned video producer, Broja, claims that his “ball-striking and physicality” are two of his strongest suit. Perhaps he is the answer. When he challenges defenders, his physicality is undoubtedly evident. According to Fbref, the Albanian international averages 6.14 take-ons per ninety minutes and completes 2.49 of them, ranking him among the top 1% of attackers in Europe.

The addition of a confident, streaking center-forward who takes chances in the box could be just what this Wolves team needs to advance. Under O’Neil, the project has gotten off to a fantastic start, and a signing like Broja might encourage them to go for greater accolades the following year.
